Application Architect

Project Description:
  • Provide architectural and big picture oversight for development of new or enhanced software products.
  • Responsible for ensuring quality and consistency of the software architecture across the system and providing day-to-day technical guidance to the development teams.
  • Define the system, technical, and application architectures for major areas of development and recommend course of action to maintain cost effectiveness and competitiveness.
  • Stay up-to-date on business initiatives and objectives, particularly as these relate to infrastructure and development architecture issues.
  • Research and implement best practices frameworks/capability models that will control costs, provide higher quality, and/or increase predictability of service delivery.
  • Research new technology and development tools to remain abreast of current and emerging technology.
  • Career-Level position within field.

  • Conducts complex work important to the organization.
  • Works with minimal supervision with wide latitude for independent judgment.
  • Typically requires six to nine years experience or equivalent education..
Specific responsibilities include:
  • This position is the highest level application architect within the Client’s Department.
  • This position will report directly to the Chief Information Officer (CIO).
  • The primary duties of this position are to create and document Enterprise Architecture standards for client; assess current and planned application and business intelligence systems for adherence to standards; advise technical staff on standards during system design and development; mentor and train development staff on adherence to standards; and advise the CIO on any major architecture issues or concerns found during the course of these duties.
  • The architect is expected to research new technologies and keep updated on the appropriate use of current technology in the client environment.
  • Current application development technologies include .NET, Java, and COBOL. Middleware and ETL components include Visual Studio, Informatica, and SSIS. Database technologies include Oracle (including Exadata), DB2, and SQL Server.
  • Reporting and visualization technologies include Tableau, Business Objects, Crystal Reports, and SQL Reporting Server.
  • Required minimum qualifications include at least six years of recent experience as an application architect with additional technical training and/or certification such as CISA, ITAC, MCSE, or similar.
