Computer Systems Operator

Location: Menomonee Falls, WI

3rd shift, 6pm - 6am, 48 hours week A, 36 hours week B; Saturday - Tuesday.
 
This position is responsible for day-to-day activities associated with job processing, data backup, real-time system monitoring, and physical site maintenance for Community Health's Information Systems. Will be required to quickly respond to server and network issues of varying level of severity and escalate issues to appropriate personnel as required. This position will also have responsibility for responding to problems and questions from system end users regarding the functionality, performance and availability of their IT equipment and/or business applications. Will work closely with Manager to ensure that the Computer Operations function delivers at a service level consistent with the expectations of IT department's senior management. Position works to improve or maintain a high level of Computer Operations performance through the use of generally accepted II best practices. Works with other IT department staff to ensure proper communication of information that may directly or indirectly impact the users of the various information systems. Works closely and professionally with Operations team members to promote teamwork and accountability. Reports to the Manager, Deployment and Operations and works under the general direction of the Data Center Lead Operator. Must provide updates regarding the key issues and works to resolve problems in an efficient and effective manner. Other duties as assigned. 
 
Job Standards:
-Performs daily computer operations activities including job processing, monitoring systems, monitoring backups, identifying problems, opening problem management records, problem escalation, and notifying users affected by computing issues.
-Routes accurate and detailed descriptions of identified or reported problems to appropriate support staff in a timely manner. As appropriate, works directly with other support staff to avoid any unnecessary escalations in the future.
-Assists in physical site maintenance activities to ensure effectiveness and proper functioning of environmental systems including HVAC, UPS, racks, flooring, fire suppression, security systems, and dedicated generators. Works to maintain a clean and safe data center environment.
-Works with tape management system to ensure proper backups have been executed on a daily basis. Identifies and pulls tapes for off-site storage rotation. Identifies tapes to be returned from off-site storage. Works with effectively with tape storage vendor to ensure consistent daily pickup and return of tapes.
-Answers telephone in professional manner and records all customer requests for problem resolution, new hardware/software, or information within the incident/problem tracking system. Resolves and/or escalates incidents/problems as required 
-Stays informed on issues and changes to the computing environment that may affect the customer. Notifies users of the specific affect that the issue may/will have on their ability to perform their job functions. Notifications should be clear and concise. 
-Works closely with rest of team to meet Operations related goals on a consistent basis.
-Reports all outstanding issues and any resolved major issues to the next Operations shift prior to departure.
-Assists in server shutdown and startup activities under the direction of Systems Administration staff.
-Develops and maintains required procedure documentation to aid in troubleshooting and cross-training.
-Assists in projects as requested by Manager. Meets quality standards and deadlines.
-Keeps current on applicable computer technologies issues through publications and self-education on an on-going basis.
-Conforms to formal departmental methodology standards including project management, change management, testing, and security requirements.
-Demonstrates effective behaviors as outlined in the organization-wide core competencies.
