Automation Application Specialist

Identifies opportunities for new sequencing product applications on third party automated liquid handling systems to drive customer satisfaction and increase sales revenue. Facilitates the translation of next generation sequencing workflows from manually-intensive operations to automated operations.
  • Execute projects on automatable equipment, build protocols that generate consistent and high-precision output, and prepare and present supporting data for new automated workflows.
  • Design, develop and maintain workflows on automated liquid handling platforms, specifically sample prep, library prep and target enrichment workflows which utilize company products.
  • Provide verification, implementation, documentation and support across many liquid handling platforms (eg. Beckman Coulter, Hamilton, Tecan, Perkin Elmer, Agilent, Eppendorf, etc.)
  • Collaborate with vendors of automated laboratory equipment to verify, develop, and support workflows including company products. Build and maintain effective relationships with vendors
  • Create user documentation, lead customer training activities, and contribute to marketing collateral related to automated solutions.
  • Design and perform experiments to: generate data in support of new automated workflows; optimize automation parameters for better performance; and address limitations of automation equipment using innovative approaches.
  • Provide insight into automated processes for clients.
  • Contribute techniques and requirements of automation customers to product development teams.
  • Maintain extensive knowledge of existing liquid handling platforms, automatable peripherals, and future products. Maintain in-house automated liquid handling systems and facilities.
  • Collaborate with R&D teams across sites to identify automation-specific needs and implement automation for new and established workflows and for a variety of projects.
  • Assist in coordinating automation-related activities between RSS sites, affiliates, and hardware and reagent vendors.
  • Install and provide support for automated workflows at client sites. Provide pre- and post-sales support for key customers who are evaluating or have implemented automated solutions for company sequencing products.
  • Up to 50% travel, with international travel possible.
